What is Dungeonpunk Online?

Dungeonpunk Online is an indie Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game currently in development, set in a decaying world thrown into chaos. Sprawling and dangerous dungeons have mysteriously emerged between the dystopian cities of the old world, marking the dawn of a new age of discovery. These perilous lands are filled with riches waiting to be claimed, secrets to uncover, and adventures for those daring enough to overcome their challenges and face the ever-present threat of death. As a player, you will take on the role of a punk—one of the bold few who have embraced the dungeons as the last refuge from the corruption of the old world. In them, you’ll find not only danger but the freedom to forge your own path.

Philosphy & Design

Dungeonpunk Online draws inspiration from both classic and modern MMORPGs. While group-focused gameplay will be at the core, solo content will be designed to complement and enhance multiplayer experiences, making it accessible for different playstyles and schedules. Social interaction will be deeply woven into the game, with multiplayer dungeons, trading systems, and collaborative quests bringing players together in meaningful ways.

Combat & Roles

Roles-based combat, inspired by the "holy trinity" concept in legacy MMORPGs, will be foundational to Dungeonpunk Online. The traditional roles of tank, healer, and damage dealer are just the beginning—players will branch out into a variety of specialties. Over time, new roles will emerge as players define and refine them, leading to evolving strategies and deeper group dynamics.

Progression

Your journey in Dungeonpunk Online will be shaped by the choices you make. The game will feature a classless progression system that offers freedom and flexibility, allowing players to specialize their characters as they see fit. Your role in the world, within groups, and in your clan will be shaped by the skills and abilities you choose for your character.

Marketplace of Adventure

Dungeonpunk Online will feature a spontaneous, dynamic quest system—a marketplace of quests where objectives evolve based on player interactions. This system will fuel emergent storytelling, with player action being the driver of in-game events.

Permanently Playable

Designed to be permanently playable through distributed server software, Dungeonpunk Online will offer the freedom to play on official servers, player-hosted servers, or your own personal server with friends. This flexible system ensures that Dungeonpunk Online servers will remain active and thriving, no matter where or how you choose to play.

Development Timeline

Dungeonpunk Online is still years from release. In the future, playtests, beta tests, and early access opportunities may become available. To stay informed and be notified when playtests might happen, subscribe to the Dungeonpunk Online newsletter, The Dungeon Dispatch.

A Letter from the Dev

Dear Punks,

At this point in the development of this game, I think the most important thing for you to know is that, for now, it’s just me. This is a mad project by a mad developer who’s been singularly obsessed with and focused on making an MMORPG ever since first experiencing the genre over a decade ago.

I know some will dismiss the possibility of this game ever being created and finished. I don’t hold that against anyone. In fact, it’s a huge motivator for me to get back to work. They’ll be welcomed back if and when I’ve earned their trust through the progress I’m able to show them.

The question some might ask is, “Why this game?” For me, there are three main reasons why.

The first reason is that I realized some time ago that no one else is going to make this game. The vision I have is so specific to my experiences and what I believe an MMORPG can be.

The second reason is that I believe I’m uniquely positioned to build this game as a solo developer. I’ve spent years honing my skills, building games, prototypes, and web applications. Each experience has led me to this point.

Finally, the third reason is simple: I desperately want to play this game. This is the game I’ve always wanted to exist, and I’m willing to take on the challenge to make it a reality.

If you’re a fan of the MMORPG genre, both new and old, this game is for you. If you’ve watched the decline of good games and the genre you love, this project is my answer—a game built for the true fans, by someone who loves the genre as much as you do.

This creative endeavor is my mountain. It’s a love letter to all the games I grew up with and to the current games that inspire me. As a father, I always tell my kids to set big goals, as Jim Rohn said, “for what it will make of you.”

Thank you for believing in me and in this project. I can’t wait to share it with you as it continues to grow.
